Issue with deleteing skins.

By R-r-ragdoll! 9 months ago

Hi... So yesterday I decided I wanted the good ol' TF2 back, no skins, no sounds, no scripts no nothing. So I went into the /tf/ folder and deleted the following folders: materials, models, scripts, sound. And then I thought I'd verify the game cache, and it started a 4GB download. That's crazy since the files are deleted were a max of 400-500MB. And this has happened before. I just want to know, is there a way to prevent this? Regards.

I haven't installed skins on TF2 but it shouldn't really download any files as all default ones is located in the GCF file

I had this issue not too long ago. I Googled it, apparently it is due to a corrupt file somewhere (Likely within the GCF itself). Of course, after the 4GB download, it happened again during the next update and went on to download 4GB again. The only fix I found was uninstalling TF2 and reinstalling it.

There might be another reason to the 4GB download, but a corrupt file within the GCF makes more sense as the GCF itself is huge. But after searching for some time, I couldn't find any other explanation other than a corrupt file.

Well I started making a backup of the GCF whenever there's an update. But the problem's fixed now, only to show me a new problem. Everytime I try to launch the game, steam starts to verify the integrity of the cache...

I think it started to do that before I got fed up and forcefully uninstalled it (not through Steam), and reinstalled it. Doing that will likely save you a lot of time rather than sitting there waiting for TF2 to verify (And likely never fix itself). Uninstall TF2, then reinstall it before going to bed. Depending on internet speed, you could have a fresh install of TF2 when you wake up in the morning.

I might as well since I have school starting. Thanks <3
