Whenever I load a map into Pakrat, it won't do anything. It just brings up the console and nothing else. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Just opening the map with Pakrat won't do anything; you need to add your custom content to the bsp either automatically (scan) or manually (you select the files to be added).
I recommend "manual" addition since auto tends to forget many assets which you'll have to search and add manually, leading to confusion. You click on 'add', then select the files that you want to add then, select save bsp from the menu.
Check the below tutorials for a step by step method:
anyone of the above should help you perform the custom content addition to your map

I can't find any of the buttons the tutorials tell me to do. The window doesn't even pop up. D:
EDIT: Nevermind, found out how to fix it. :D
How did you resolve this problem? I'm experiencing the same problem, and I'd really like some help. It's stopping me from compiling my latest map project, which is a real falling block.
Thanks!

launch the .jar, find/select/open the map, click the auto button, make sure it has found everything (if not, click add and manually find the missing textures), then click file>save and save it. you can open a .bsp map file in GCFScape and check if the textures are there if you want to make sure btw ;)
I just had to put a cubemap in. See if that helps. :3

I think you misunderstand both me and Pyspy. We get a problem where Pakrat doesn't open the packing window. Instead, it gets stuck on the console screen (I'd post a screenshot but you need 10 posts to share links) screen.
The problem is that it doesn't move past this console screen (as it normally does) to the packing options window. It's a rare problem, and there's no known way to fix it to the best of my knowledge. Google "Pakrat won't load" or anything to that effect and you'll see it's not that I don't know how to use Pakrat. I've used it for years! :)
Thanks for the advice, Pyspy, but that wasn't the way to fix it for me. :( I'll keep this thread posted if I do fix it. Whoever marked your post as dumb clearly has no idea what this thread is about, which is disappointing! I marked it helpful and thanks though! :D
Why not use PackBSP instead, Pakrat tends to skip some files at times.

Why not use PackBSP instead, Pakrat tends to skip some files at times.
I tried to use PackBSP, but it had huge trouble trying to determine my Steam games, even though I provided it with the right Steam directory. :(
Fixed the problem. I copy-pasted the whole map into a new file, saved and recompiled. That worked once, then broke again with the same problem, even though I didn't change anything in the map. I undid some of my recent brushwork, and that's fixed it. So my advice is to create a new .VMF file; undo brushwork in your most recent compile; and add a cubemap (I did that too before the new file). Hope that helps someone!
