(Help!) Reflective floors! =)

Looking for help with a reflection issue.

By Sir_Light 2 years ago

Hi all! I'm working with a someone to create a reflective surface floor in a big open room with tracking markers on the map for replays/screenshots etc. It's fairly basic aside from the flooring that is used, we have some custom materials on the walls etc though.

Currently this is the look of reflection we're going for: http://flamingmenace.deviantart.com/gallery/2853193 Or http://www.gamebanana.com/tuts/screens/5156?screen=2

The issue with the gamebanana link is that the method used to do it doesn't reflect character models apparently.

This is what we have so far: http://www.cakesandcameras.com/tf2/reflect.jpg It's more of a poor quality looking mirror rather than the nice blurred/fading look.

Obviously it has been done before as there are screenshots of it existing, I'm just looking to find someone who knows how to do this, might know someone who can do this, or any sort of advice at all in regards to making the first type of blurred effect in all the screenshots.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. =)

You could ask the the person of the first link how it's done, but I guess it's post processing.

Have already added him to steam, sent him an email, and messaged him here. He's pretty inactive, last activity was about a week ago on steam.

Nope, if you look at the links the reflections are blurred/fading. Not looking for a straight mirror, that's what we already have more or less.

Screen 1 is photoshop. GreenScreen is missing Aliasing.

You can add another texture on top of the reflection to blur as much as you want. That feature still works. Same way windows in portal 2 distort.

Just an FYI; screen 1 is not photoshop. If you look closely you can see that the reflections on his screenshots show the bottom of people's feet. This is not possible when your mirrored reflections don't have the soles of the feet to begin with.

Thanks for your response, we'll give it a go. =)

http://flamingmenace.deviantart.com/gallery/2853193#/d1bm0hm Example to the above response. The spy's head is the back of his head and you can't see his face. If you mirrored that in photoshop it wouldn't look like that, it would have his face visible. =) The glow about it may be photoshop, but that's about it, it's a map reflection on the floor for the most part.

lol.. Did you read 3 posts up? "If you look closely you can see that the reflections on his screenshots show the bottom of people's feet. This is not possible when your mirrored reflections don't have the soles of the feet to begin with." 15+ years photoshop experience, know for a fact it's not.

Try that. Extract to your materials folder. Doesn't really blur as much as those wallpapers though.

Put reflect on the floor then make a 1 unit thick brush over it with blur on the top face, then make the blur brush a func_brush as the Refract shader doesn't work on world brushes or func_detail.
