TF2 Expensive Water

Enables reflections on the default TF2 water materials instead of cubemaps.

This is a bunch of vmt files that enable reflections on the default tf2 water materials instead of cubemaps.

To install simply extract the rar to Steam\steamapps[username]

To see reflections you will have to have them set to reflect world or reflect all in the graphics options.

To uninstall simply delete or move the files, as the original files will still be in the team fortress 2 materials.gcf

Note: may not work on all servers/custom maps/new maps, and may cause water to disappear completely. May break with game updates, I don't know, I stopped playing this when they released the free to play stuff.

This skin messed up my game. The water isn't reflective when I tested this download. This mod is probably broken.

Was "Reflect All" Selected in advanced options?

Its not practical for use for people with already poor-performance, but it is certainly great to use when making screenshots/videos.

Fake factory doesn't have anything to do with the cartoony looks in TF2.

Posted by bobnine Yeah but anything else with a cubemap will probably still be purple checkered. Alternatively you could just assign the expensive water material in your map and turn your reflections on in graphics settings and it should do the same thing. You should still build cubemaps before you release it though.

Yeah, that's what I meant. This is actually really useful, as I can run my tf2 map in progress, and see what it will look like straight away, without needing to do the cubemaps. Makes a massive difference.

Alternatively you could just assign the official expensive water material in your map and turn your reflections on in graphics settings and it should do the same thing. You should still build cubemaps before you release it though.

Does this mean that you won't get purple water if you're testing your map and haven't set up cubemaps yet? Because I'm doing devshots for my swamp map and they look terrible at the moment.
