SapMaster X5000

The SapMaster X5000 - Skin by SwatMat - Brought to you by The Banana Factory

The SapMaster X5000

Hello boys and girls :) I've been pretty bored these couple days and have done mapping way too much lately. So I thought I could try skinning. So I started looking around for weapons that could take little improving. I have skinned only couple models, so that's why I wanted something easy.

So, sapper seemed easy and I had so much ideas for it. just had to come up with a good name and we're done. So meet one of my first skins, The SapMaster X5000

Change list:
  • New screen with power meter and with version and designer/assembler texts
  • Old "Electro-Sapper" -text replaced with new "SapMaster X5000" -text
  • Old orange wire recolored to red
  • Texts for On/Off switches and for the big rotateable thing

That's all for now :) I hope you enjoy it as much I enjoyed making it

Pros: It's a fairly decent idea, and for the sake of what work you actually did, it looks nice. Cons: No offense, but this isn't anything new. Recolors are getting boring, and just adding new text, changing the meter, and recoloring a wire shouldn't really deserve such a high score. So for what it is, it gets a 7 for functionality.

Next, originality also can't be that high. It's a simple recolor, just added text, changed image, and changed color. been done plenty of times before. So there is a 7 for originality.

The texture isn't very good to be honest. I liked the power screen, that looked pretty well done. But what wasn't good was the following. You only changed the color of those wires, rest of the skin is exactly the same. You forgot to recolor the other 2 parts of the wire which can be seen from the top of the model. The text doesn't match the skin, it has too much depth to it, maybe make it for flat, and make it look worn out, since that's how the default base looks. So that's about all of the texture, except for one thing. You didn't even change the alpha channel. The alpha channel is the default, and because of this the lighting and reflectivity doesn't match your current recolor. That's enough to drop the texture to 6.5 Improvements: Put more effort into doing a skin. Maybe even read up on some tutorials on how to do a proper reskin. Notes: This site is flooded with recolor/edits for TF2, so you can't really earn anything when it's all the same or all been done before. I know it's your second release, but you should really consider doing something new, since there are barely any actual reskins for the game.

Pros: It has some cool added details and the idea is actually quite good. Cons: Its still mostly default texture and isnt that different from the original. Improvements: Add some more details and maeby a change of color scheme? Notes: Great idea, but do more changes next time ;D

Its simple but it looks a lot better then the defualt the text fits into the game. Only next time maybe bump map? (I know your new to skinning but most of the time bump maps make a huge difference).

Posted by Nelson340 You do realize that the model for a sapper on an engineer's buildables has a different texture, right?

Yeah. I know I didn't make buildable skin, because first, there's only couple details changed, so it will look pretty much the same from distance, and second, it's on buildables for so short time so you don't have time to look at it :/
