Bombs (It's as simple as that!)

You want it? It's yours my friend!

This is just a simple mod idea I had for a bit, but never got around to doing. This mod changes the stickybombs into classic styled bombs, like what used to be the Demoman's symbol, and also adds some special particles that give it a team colored aura (for identification) and a lit fuse glow.

    Notes:

    • How do i install the particles?

Put them in the same directory with the materials and models folders.

    Bite me.

This also solved the problem of making the bombs team identifiable in dark places.

You do know you can make the texture "glow", right? Instead of pastel-coloring the bombs, you could've easily just made them team-colored and then in Photoshop, added the necessary Alpha layering, and then edited the VMT file to make them glow in the dark like the XMAS lights on Festive weapons.

Yes, I have made many selfillum masks for some personal mods of mine. The main reason I didn't make the bombs glow in the dark, is because that I didn't like how they would look with the fuse particles. I think the particle auras help solve the problem in general because it is a familiar look to people due to the intellegence and payload effects.

    Bite me.

If I was truly lazy, 404, I would've just slapped an overlay of the colors over the ambient occlusion. If you can't see it by looking at the images, there is some noise and brushes that I added (View). The main thing that inspired me to do the mod and texture it the way I did was the bomb I did on my Poppin' Pie. I didn't make it the normal black because that was just overdone, and I thought the grey would make it look slightly different and make the strokes more visible. I acknowledged the fact that team colors would be an issue, due to the UV map and the "pastel" coloring. I didn't wish to make the body of the bomb bright and colorful like you two are yelling at me about, because it would just look a bit too silly. Also, adding stripes or decals around it wouldn't account for certain rotations, and would be hard to see due to it's size. So what I did instead was add a self illuminated particle aura around it, which neither of you have taken into account or mentioned. This also solved the problem of making the bombs team identifiable in dark places.

Hmm.....you make a good point Fission.

I hereby retract my "laziness" comment, as I now see the excellent brushwork that's been done, though I still would like to see darker versions of these.

I'll go change my rating to reflect this.

404 and Hawk do have a point, it is hard to tell which team they belong to in-game

So long as we're doing bombs, I'd love to see the ones from Zelda Ocarina of Time

(Oh yeah, and these are cool too)

having them hard to tell apart works against you, since only you can see them and by the time you see them, and the fact they're not your team color, odds are you're in a million bloody bits

And look, someone else rated your post "Dumb". But hey, not everybody can know how to properly texture a fucking bomb in a game where the main focus is bright and vibrant team-based colors (not fucking bland pastel colors), unlike you and I, Hawk. We know how to properly texture things.

How many items ingame do you see with bland, pastel team colors, not counting hats that have been painted with those utterly shit pastel paint cans? I've owned basically every item in TF2 at one point or another, and I can't think of anything (mainly weapons) that is pastel-colored.

And don't say "the stickybomb launcher". The Stickybomb Launcher isn't teamcolored.

I'd use these, but if I did, I'd first reskin them and darken the fuckin' things because right now, they're just gigantic pastel eye-sores.

    EDIT

Hell, if you want a better suggestion, recolor both bombs black, then add some sort of pinstripe around that top "lip" where the fuse comes out, or some sort of decal, and team-color the fuckin' pinstripe/decal/whatever. It's not hard to texture things, but this....jesus christ, this is just laziness at it's best.

And as a little side note, I personally like simpler looks to my custom models. So edit the textures if you don't like how I made it. :)
