Gravelpit with a Steel twist

Welcome to Observatory! I was inspired by Steel, but noticed some negativity towards it over it's complexity. I also love Gravel Pit, but wanted to make a map where there was more incentive to defend both A and B. My goal in Observatory is to have a map with deeper strategic value within a rather simple layout. BLU gets to choose what kind of advantage they want when assaulting C, and RED must shift their forces to counter BLU's assaults. Just remember, a team that only defends C is bound for failure! I hope you enjoy my first map!

Objective: - RED team wins by defending C. - BLU team wins by capturing C before the time runs out.

Other Notes: - Capturing A opens a path directly to C - Capturing B destroys RED's bridge to C, and opens additional paths to the control room - C cannot be captured until either A or B is captured. - RED team cannot regain control of a point once BLU has captured it.

I did not really want to release another version, but this came with requests from several people to make Point C easier to defend.

Changes for Version 4: -Edges of the fences on B are now more distinguishable -Moved pickups on B more towards defenders -Removed first floor interior hallways -Reduced cap time on C

Special thanks to everyone, especially the [-Q-] clan and the Dejavu clan for their continued support.

Great map, man. Favorite custom map EVER. In fact, I think you should submit it to Valve. Also, do you remember a server called "{TD} Team Domination"? We were playing this map on the server. Melee only = fun. (IP: 8.12.18.162:27015)

There's a serious performance issue in the B area which seems to mysteriously go away the instant the point is capped. Can you pleeeeeeaaaaaaseeee fix it? :)

EDIT: It only happened when I ran around on it as a listen server. When actually playing it, there was no issue :S

Posted by AI|Chicky Your scoring should be identical to the gravelpit scoring - one point for each point captured.

That is how it has been set up. I cannot think of any reason why it would not work other than you not using the latest version, but I was certain you were using it when I stumbled across your session.

Are you sure it is not working properly for you?

Posted by Icarus A nessecary fix for competitive play and a little something for pub servers. Changes for Version 3: -Fixed team scoring; now compatible with mp_tournament -Reduced filesize by ~10MB

I could have sworn last night that it gave only one point for capturing all three points. Your scoring should be identical to the gravelpit scoring - one point for each point captured. Of course, this is 24 hours after playing the map - so maybe you've already fixed that.

Pros: Impressive! Not only is this map beautiful, but it's definitely an enjoyable map. Cons: Tad confusing at first - but what map isn't? Improvements: None - at least initially. You were there for the map run through on my server and despite the server problems we had at the end - it seemed to play very well. All the players in ventrilo gave excellent feedback as well. Notes: I've added the map to the rotation for my server. We do votes for the nextmap so there's no real way to tell when the map will get played. BUT - you should be able to catch it every so often and get some decent feedback from players then. I think you've done an excellent job providing a gravelpit type map with an entirely different feel but with the same type of gameplay. Excellent work! Can't wait to see your next map.
