Sidetracked is a payload race style match where each team races to carry their bomb from their truck, through the rail station and to the enemy convoy on the other side.

Sidetracked is a payload race style match where each team must carry their payload from their truck, through the rail station and to the enemy convoy on the other side. The first team to blow up the other's truck wins the round. It was created in less than 40 days for GameBanana's Dangerous Cargo map contest.

Instructions: Move the plr_sidetracked.bsp file into your maps folder: steamapps\username\team fortress 2\tf\maps.

    Pros:

    • Good gameplay - You sure gonna have some funn playing this map.

    Cons:

    • The texture you used as pavement looks very unrealistic.
    • You have a problem with the lights too. The radious of your spotlight is too small. It looks like you put a flashlight inside.

    Improvements:

    • More is better. Build some new and unique buildings. Change that texture in the road. And fix the lights. These are the main things you have to change in your map.

DevNotes

Sidetracked was created using Valve's Source SDK map editor using all materials and models already built into the engine. The concept was to create a TF2 map that some how used a truck full of dangerous cargo as a focus. My original thought was payload, but the problem I had with it was that ending the players at or letting them begin from a truck made the truck irrelevant as it would only really be present in a very small portion of the map. I considered a pyramid-style control point map but instead came up with the idea for a payload race map where both teams start and end at a bomb truck. This way, the bomb truck is always in play and becomes a more central theme. The map is designed to be small but still offer the best gameplay for any player class. The map is adequate for play and can be considered complete but I want to go through and add more details as well as import my own truck model for each team. Until then please give the map a try and enjoy with others!
