It's been about a year since I last published a version of Scorched. All the while, I've been sitting on this update for about the same amount of time. I would often think to myself: “Hey, maybe it's about time to release this update.” Yet here I am, a year later. This update will likely be the last of my source mapping and modding, and it's been a both a great and frustrating experience. If you've all been following me on various websites such as Interlopers or Polycount, You've probably noticed my absence. I've been expanding my knowledge and learning how to become a better developer. Never has there been a point in my life like this where I've felt such an eager need to improve myself. All the while, never have I felt such urge to go out there an show everyone what I can do all the while.
Looking back on my old work after so much time feels both frightening and heart warming. I see the bad, yet I also see the good. At this moment, I've decided to put aside my old habits and finally declare something as “finished” despite it's flaws. With that, I am eager to look toward the distant future with optimism with the hopes that some day this will become my profession. With the hopes that I will work along like minded individuals. Nothing feels more satisfying to me than releasing a product for people to enjoy, which is what motivates me to work.
Having said that, the year was not spent being idle. I've increased my knowledge of tools such as 3ds Max and Zbrush, which is why I must bid my farewells with source. I've learned now that I shouldn't be limited to games that already exist, but expand my work to projects of my own. Expand my work to approach new unexplored horizons that bare fruits of knowledge not yet tasted.
To everyone, I hope you too find the will to explore what lays beyond the mists that hug the surface of the horizon. To all of those who have been paying attention, I send my thanks. To all of those who have their doubts about me, I hope only to somehow show change your minds.
