[English] Subtitles (Updated May 12th)

Rejected for unknown reasons, the colored Subtitles for Team Fortress 2 are here. Again.

To install:

Place either of the "Sven's English subtitles" folders into your "steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom" directory.

To use:

Enable closed captions (or subtitles) in the "Audio" tab of Team Fortress 2, and play. If you find any spelling errors or missing captions, let me know.

To uninstall: Delete the folders. Pretty easy stuff.

Addendum: I know that these aren't in VPK format. I have tried putting them into the VPK format but, for some reason or another, the game doesn't load the addon correctly when they are. However, and this is the important part, the subtitles will work on literally every server (at least unless the server owner is so paranoid that they block EVERY custom file), including highlander or (in my limited experience) tournament servers. Please note that this mod only covers character dialog within a certain distance, and does not include weapon sounds (so everyone who thinks that it's "cheating" because you can hear a Spy decloaking, it's not because you can't).

they won't work for me, even if i have steam setted in italian, i tried to set everything in english, but still no subtitles

is anyone having the same problem?

Ugh, I'll take another look at it. I don't understand why they wouldn't be working for you two, though, since they work perfectly over here on my machine.

    thanks mate :3

Alright, I've updated it again. I trashed the VPK versions and made it into a standard folder inside the "tf/custom" folder, and as it turns out, the VPK file didn't work anyway. The normal folder, though, does. I thought that the VPK worked because I hadn't removed the normal folder when I was testing the VPK.

In any case, they both should work, on any server you want. There are probably still some grammar/spelling parts wrong (or just plain wrong, like when I had the Demoman say "HAVE AT THEM" instead of "HAVE AT 'EM, LADS", so please let me know if you find anything.

However, since we're on the subject, these subtitles are (whenever they DO work for everyone LIKE THEY SHOULD BE RIGHT NOW) in English only for the time being. I had the idea of translating them into the other supported languages for the game but haven't been able to do much yet in that area.

Standard Font version didn't work for me. I put it in common/team fortress 2/tf/custom and turned on subtitles in the audio section. Help?Did I do something wrong or does the server not allow it?I don't know if it works for dedicated server or a different server that allows to use customizations. (I didn't check if the tf2 font version worked for me)

is there a fix for the new steampipe update? because , even if i move the files in the "custom" folder or the root "tf" folder, they do not show up in-game

I finally got a chance to sit down and fix it. I'm testing the TF2-font version right now in VPK format and will be updating the file on here within the hour if everything works.

How did you managed to fix it anyway? I tried it too but nothing worked.

I just now uploaded the fixed versions. Follow the directions and don't try to install both at once and it should work for you. Hopefully everyone who downloaded this will get the new version soon.

As for HOW I did it, I just followed some tutorials I found on SPUF for adding custom HUD files in a post-SteamPipe world, and it works for me.
