Updates

Post-SteamPipe TF2 update - 3 years ago

  • Gave up on trying to update to VPK format, shifted into standard folder inside "tf/custom," works.

{OUTDATED} Subtitles (May 2013)

Rejected for unknown reasons, the colored Subtitles for Team Fortress 2 are here. Again.

To install:

Place either of the "Sven's English subtitles" folders into your "steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom" directory.

To use:

Enable closed captions (or subtitles) in the "Audio" tab of Team Fortress 2, and play. If you find any spelling errors or missing captions, let me know.

To uninstall: Delete the folders. Pretty easy stuff.

Addendum: I know that these aren't in VPK format. I have tried putting them into the VPK format but, for some reason or another, the game doesn't load the addon correctly when they are. However, and this is the important part, the subtitles will work on literally every server (at least unless the server owner is so paranoid that they block EVERY custom file), including highlander or (in my limited experience) tournament servers. Please note that this mod only covers character dialog within a certain distance, and does not include weapon sounds (so everyone who thinks that it's "cheating" because you can hear a Spy decloaking, it's not because you can't).

I can't believe that the Mod is still working, only the subtitles from the updates are missing. You only need to remove the ClientScheme.res and drop one of the folders into tf/custom. After I did that the mod started to work again the nothing was broken!

I know how to install a mod, i put the resource and sound folder in /tf, every time when i install it, its going to add 5 files, upon re installation it shows that only 3 of those files are in there.

Let's take the problem by its roots. Take the files themselves, as in copying the files, not the folders containing them, and paste them inside their corresponding tf2 folders. There should not be room for error...on our end, at least.

Also, excuse my attitude in my other reply.

It does, and i did, everytime i install it again it wants to replace the same 3 files instead of the 5 files that are there.

Obviously it's not gonna work if you don't know how to install it to begin with.

There ARE 3 files to replace, not 5. What are you talking about? The only files you have to install are the clientscheme.res and closecaption_english.dat files in the tf/resource folder, and the sound.cache file in the tf/sound folder, from either the tf2 font or standard font folders. ACCEPT when it asks you if you want to replace the files. Is it really that hard to comprehend, or do I have to make a gif for you?

Or maybe it's something else fucking up your game, because at this point I'm starting to find it hard to believe you still didn't get it working after all my posts.

    i did, still not working

I'm sorry, but that is also impossible.

I downloaded it again, selected the folders inside the standard font folder, cut them and pasted them on my tf folder to merge them with my default sound and resource folders. Worked yet again.

It's logically impossible for it to not work this way. You sure you have closed captions turned on, to begin with?

So in console it claims its missing captions. What? EDIT: the files get replaced and removed everytime i start tf2 HELP

Yeah, the console gives me those errors too, but the captions still show up.

Replaced and removed? What do you mean? It's supposed to ask you if you want to merge the folders if you are pasting the folders from the download into the tf folder.
